Invitation to IFAJ 2010 congress

Dear IFAJ member,

The 54th annual congress IFAJ2010 will be hosted by the Belgian association of Agricultural Journalists (BVLJ-ABJA), a founding member of IFAJ. The BVLJ-ABJA welcomes you at the Belgian seaside in the marvelous Thermae Palace hotel from April 17 until April 21 .The theme of the congress is “Between passion & pressure”.

Program precongress – wednesday April 14- saturday April 17 (Grand Duchy of Luxembourgh)

  • Visit to the Institute Viti Vinicole
  • Visit to the cellars of the most important wine producer “Les Domaines de Vinsmoselle” and introduction with their unique crémant
  • Visit to “LuxLait”, the only dairy agricultural association in the country
  • A boat trip on the Moselle to Schengen, the city in which The Schengen Agreement was signed
  • Visit to the historical castle of Vianden
  • To Ostend passing by Belgian Luxembourg and seeing forestry, Ardenner draft horse, Jambon d’Ardenne

  • Sunday April 18 – The city of Ghent
  • Cradle of biotechnology; bio-energy valley Symposium on agriculture and biotechnology Visit to the Floralies of Ghent, the biggest indoor flower show in Europe
  • Monday April 19 – Excursions

Wallonia, the French speaking part of Belgium known for his arable crops, forest, Ardenner draft horses and the famous Belgian Blue Flanders, the Dutch speaking part of Belgium known for his animal husbandry with dairy farming, calfbreeding, feeding, but also diversified horticulture and always sustained by research and development and multi-functional approach

  • Wednesday April 21 – End of the main congress – start of the postcongress

 

Postcongress – wednesday April 21- friday April 23 (Ypres & Brussels)

  • Wednesday April 21: Europe, the past

From 1914 to 1918 the “Westhoek” was the scene of the Great War. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers of more than 20 nationalities fell in this conflict. Stil today farmers plough up bombs from this Great War. Visit to Yper, attending the Last Post – the traditional salute to the fallen warrior

  • Thursday April 22: Europe, the present

Brussels, capital of the European Union Visit to the European Parliamant Symposium organized by the European Commission (DG AGRI) on agricultural policy

  • Friday April 23: freetime in Brussels - end of postcongress
