Artist Maija Takkinen paints cows

The old milk cans located in congress hall, with decorations of cows in the lovely Finnish landscape, are made by the artist Maija Takkinen. Some of her works are just now placed on exhibitions in the art gallery of the city of Helsinki and also in Kaustinen. Her art has been exhibited since the 1980´s. Cow is her topic number one. Besides milk cans she paints cows on material, wood, even on farm tanks or cowshed wall. As late as the 1960´s milk was transported from farms to the dairy in these big milk cans. Now Maija Takkinen is using these cans in her art. Cows have fascinated Maija Takkinen since her childhood. She used to work as farmer’s locum and knows her models thoroughly until character and mentality.  “A cow is rather inexpressive, but knowing them I can conclude from different things, what’s going on behind the two horns”, the artist says.  Maija Takkinen works her art in Pahakkala village in Rantasalmi (close to the congress town Savonlinna), where she has an old log house from the 1870´s as her home and studio.
